Walking on the roofs of Peter

In recent years, we have spent many summers in St. Petersburg. The city was studied mainly from above. One of the places of our regular visits was the tower of the Air Defense Forces (a valiant air defense regiment of the Second World War), which young Petersburgers nicknamed “The Roof of the World”.

The addresses of various iconic places, especially before the development of the Internet, were a kind of secret. The chosen few knew them, and many who wanted to get on the roofs got to know the experts and could get the coveted admission. To get on the roof, then it might be necessary to overcome the door to the entrance, find / organize an exit to the roof, and sometimes overcome the attention of residents and janitors. Often, all this turned into a series of adventures.

Such excursions in St. Petersburg are very popular. A great contribution to this was made by the special architectural development of the city. The best architects of Europe once worked on the buildings of the historical center, and the decree not to erect buildings higher than 5 floors allowed everyone to open up a wonderful panorama when they went upstairs.

Cleaning and arrangement of the Roof of the World

On our first visit to the “Roof of the World” in 2011, we faced the consequences of frequent visits to an already iconic place, so we had to work hard to put the tower in order. We took out 17 full large bags of garbage from the tower. The boards were brought in, sawed, leveled and laid on the floor. They brought a sofa to the "Roof of the World".

After the inside of the tower was ready, we made a platform with a ladder to the entrance to the tower, and with the remaining boards we laid out the roof of the tower. The sofa brought in and adjusted to the size of the tower perfectly complemented the space.

Soon the Roof of the World was ready for the opening of the Tracer Hotel!
