Cross the USA: A Record to the Dentist » Tracers

Chrysler_Building_dentistWhile traveling in the USA, I decided that I should take some pictures for memory. This story tells about one unsuccessful attempt to get such a frame.

New York, Brooklyn, hostel. Evening.
I am sitting at my laptop and looking at the Internet ads of dental clinics. I find the phone number of the clinic I need in the center. In the 21st century, everything is convenient - an appointment via the Internet, confirmation is sent to the mail. I make an appointment for the last day of my stay in the city, right before leaving for Washington.

On the appointed day I come to the address, at the reception they ask me for a passport, check the availability of an appointment by calling the clinic, issue a pass. A security guard approaches the reception, invites me to follow him. I discreetly turn on the camera, which I hold in my hand, hiding it in my sleeve, go after him, apply the issued pass to the turnstile, the guard points to the elevator I need:
- "You need 57th floor, you need to get off there and change to another elevator going higher."
- "Good. Thanks".
I go into the elevator, I press the button "57". The building is solid - the lift is fast.

On the 57th I leave. I walk along the corridor to the door with the sign “Fire Exit” (fire exit). The fire escape leads me to the 61st floor door - the door is closed (completely closed). Then I go down to the 60th, go out on the floor - the technical floor. I wander around. Nothing like the stairs leading up. As a result, I find: a service elevator and a hatch, exactly under which the camera hangs. Of the two options, I choose the first and press the elevator call button. The lift takes a long time. Finally, the doors open and there is a Chrysler Building employee in front of me.
- What are you (in the English language there is no reference to “you”, even if, suddenly, you decide to show respect) are you doing here?
- I went to the dentist, but I wanted to go out and take a picture with a sculpture of an eagle.
- You can't be here. Get on the elevator - we're going down.
I go into the elevator, a massive door closes and we set off.
- John (can't remember real name), 60th trespassing. I'm taking him to you.
- What was he doing there?
- I wanted to take a photo on the 61st.
- Are you on your way?
- Yes.
- Bring him here faster.

Downstairs, on the first floor, the following company was waiting for us: the guard who accompanied me to the elevator, the head of the security, and two of his assistants. What happened next is understandable. I will say that nothing out of the ordinary. Only screams, threats to prison, a log entry and a warning that the next time I only need to enter the building, I will go to prison. By the way, I still don't know why they canceled (exactly canceled) the police call that had already been made.
Security Supervisor (last):
- Do you know who Moses Gates is?
- No. What?
- So he took a picture there somehow. Now he has a suspended sentence. He has only to get caught and he will sit down.

History
The building was built in 1930. In 1930-1931 it was the tallest in the world. At first it belonged to the Chrysler corporation, but was later bought out by other companies. Until 1945, an observation deck, open to everyone, was located on the 61st floor.

Evening of the same day. The same hostel. Surfing the Internet.
- Hi Moses. Today I tried to climb the 61st floor of Chrysler. Signed up to the dentist for 69th. I went through security, but got fired up on the technical floor. As I understand, you were lucky, before the door of the 60th was open (the floor was empty - it’s not available to anyone), but now it was closed.
- And how did you think of making an appointment with the dentist and how did you find out that there is a clinic there at all?
- Found an ad on the Internet. I was going to climb the Brooklyn Bridge tomorrow, but I won't - I'll take today's incident as a sign that it's time to move on.
- Yes, now the security on the Brooklyn Bridge has been increased. It is better not to meddle there.

The experience of communicating with roofers (people who are fond of getting on roofs and other objects for the sake of photographs or just like that) shows that often the degree of complexity is exaggerated, and in general, they are unlikely to contribute to your success. But it should be noted that the Brooklyn Bridge was indeed heavily guarded in those days. (Approx. Author).

In the photo (right), two workers of the Chrysler Building (photo of the building on the left) in 1934 light a cigarette on a sculpture of an eagle (center photo). The building has an eagle at each corner of the 61st floor, which is eight floors below the dentist's office (as of 2014).

Good luck to you if you have a desire to be photographed for this wonderful place. The building itself is a symbol of New York City.

And as for me, I was so upset, because this picture should have become my favorite picture from New York, and at the same time glad, because I was not imprisoned, not deported, because my trip to the USA was just beginning. And if suddenly you do not want to look for adventure, but strongly want photos from the upper floors of the Chrysler Building, then make an appointment with the dentist and you will see the following views:

Below are pictures from different years - here are those who managed to get (more often by an official method) photos with an eagle (someone even managed to sit on his head):

And this is removed in Hollywood (note the picture on the left):

Finally, I will give a few more photos of people and their everyday life:
